ICL Innovation Incubator seeks cost effective technologies, either by way of a device or material, to selectively reduce Sodium content in irrigation water.<\/p>\n
Background<\/p>\n
Sodium, an element of almost no use to the plant, contributes to the deterioration of soil structure, and builds up a persistent harmful osmotic pressure. Excessive irrigation is needed in order for the plants to wash it off their roots. Reducing Sodium ions content in irrigation water, preferably by replacing it with<\/p>\n
Potassium ions will contribute to economical irrigation and an environmentally conscious approach. Solutions as farm level Reverse Osmosis and ion exchange provide partial answers, but cost is still prohibitive, and selectivity remains an issue. Semi-arid regions as well as areas where the source is brackish or reused water are prime candidates for a novel approach to the reduction of Sodium.<\/p>\n
